Acknowledgement Circles: Holding the earth (inflatable globe), the birthday child walks around a paper sun (made especially for the occasion and signed by everyone in the class) one time for every year old. We sing "We celebrate your birth, and your place on the earth, may the sun, moon and stars, bring you peace where you are" (to the tune of Happy Birthday). Then we go around the circle and give acknowledgements to the birthday child. An acknowledgement is something special we see in the person. Family members are encouraged to join us for birthday celebrations.
Summer Birthdays: We would love to celebrate your child's half birthday. Please touch base with me about when a good time to do this would be.
Each day your child will bring home the QAE orange folder and must return it to school each day. Important notes and work may be sent home through this folder. Papers on the “return to school” side need to be filled out and sent back to school. Please encourage your child to take responsibility for the contents of his/her folder and remember to bring it back to school. In 4th grade the expectation is parents assist with this, but the student should primarily be responsible for it. If you put something in the folder for me or the school, please let your child know it's there so he/she can be aware of it.
We have a snack time in the morning. Your children are encouraged to bring a healthy item (such as fruit, cheese, crackers, yogurt) that will sustain them until lunch time. Please do not send juice, sweets or chips.
*We have a student with a serious tree nut allergy.
Our school-wide focus on reading includes a nightly reading-at-home program. We ask that your child reads for a minimum of 20-30 minutes every night.
